The Open Water Course has 2 components for the course - Academic & Practicals.

Academic

This gives you the basic knowledge and understanding of the underwater environment. Just like learning to drive, you need to know the rules of the road. This knowledge gives you the rules for proceeding into the wonderful underwater environment.

Practicals

Confined Water (Pool) - we test your swimming skills and your ability to float. Then we teach you a series of skills that you will need when you are diving. Skills such as, clearing your mask, how to control your breathing and how to properly control your buoyancy.

Open Water Dives (4 total) - all of the skills and knowledge that you learned in academics and confined water will now be demonstrated in your open water dives. All dives are completed in the Ocean from a dive boat. Each dive has a prescribed set of skills that you will demonstrate to your instructor. Once you have completed all 4 dives, you will become a CERTIFIED OPEN WATER DIVER!

You have several options in how you accomplish both the Academic & Practical:

For all options listed below the course cost is $399 (except Private Courses)

Four Academic Options:

Option 1 - 1-week course. We will provide you with a PADI Open Water Crew Pack which contains your manual, dive log and recreational dive planner. We will also loan you a DVD (deposit required) that complements the manual. The book and DVD contain five sections which take approximately 2 hours to complete. At the end of each section is a Knowledge Review that will need to be completed. There will be two in-store class nights, one to include an introduction to the store and class with a review of the Knowledge Reviews and quizzes. The second night will continue the review of the Knowledge Reviews and quizzes and you will complete the Final Exam. During these class nights you will have discussions to help answer any questions you may have had while watching the DVD or reading the book. Combine this option with option 1 from the Practical options.

Option 2 - PADI e-Learning (online) or Touch (offline), both of which consist of approximately 10 hours of material and testing. You can do this at your leisure. There will be one class night for an introduction to the store and class, a review before taking the "Quick Test" to confirm what you learned during the online work and to cover any questions. This can be combined with the Practical Option 1.

Option 3 - Weekend Course - We will provide you with a PADI Open Water Crew Pack which contains your manual, dive log and recreational dive planner. We will also loan you a DVD (deposit required) that complements the manual. The book and DVD contain five sections which take approximately 2 hours to complete. At the end of each section is a Knowledge Review that will need to be completed. You will spend Saturday and Sunday in-class, which will include an introduction to the store and class with a review of the Knowledge Reviews, take the quizzes and the Final Exam. During these class nights you will have discussions to help answer any questions you may have had while watching the DVD or reading the book. This can be combined with Practical Option 3.

Option 4 - Private Course - this allows you to complete the

required Academic skills either in-store with an instructor or

through e-Learning, scheduled to fit your schedule.

Three Practical Scheduling Options:

Option 1 - 2-week course - You will then spend 2 nights a week for 2 weeks learning all your Confined Open Water skills in our heated pool. If you took the e-Learning Option there will be one short classroom session where you will have an introduction & complete a "Quick Test". After the second week you will spend the weekend completing your Open Water Dives off a dive boat in Pompano Beach.

Option 2 - Weekend Course - You will spend the first Saturday and Sunday in our heated pool learning all your Confined Open Waters skills. The second weekend will be completing your Open Water Dives off a dive boat in Pompano Beach.

Option 3 - Private Class - this allows you to complete the Confined Water Skills and the Open Water Dives on a schedule that meets your needs.

Included with all course options is full use of Scuba Equipment - Buoyancy Compensator, Regulator, Wetsuit, Console Computer, Scuba Tanks and all Air Fills.

You are required to purchase your own Personal Equipment which includes; mask, snorkel, booties, gloves, fins, weight, slate and a signal tube.

Please take advantage of what we offer in-store.

  • 100% Mask Guarantee - a leaky mask can ruin your experience

  • Personal Fitting

  • Fin Rental Program

Discount stores and internet equipment can sell dive equipment "cheaper" because they do not provide the basic needs for scuba divers such as rentals, classes, service, certified pure breathing air for your scuba tanks, free pool usage and trips, thereby reducing the cost of running their business. These business are not concerned about you as a diver and cannot provide you the opportunity to try out dive gear in our pool before you buy it to ensure it fits, is comfortable, and performs to your expectations, free of charge.

Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to the check out dives & are responsible for arranging their own hotel room while in Pompano Beach.
